I tried two different mediums, but can't tell which is better. The figure in the pen blank makes it hard to see. On retrospect, I should have used white. And I'm still having trouble aligning the pen before engraving it.

Hi Jim .... just to give a little insight how I engrave my pens .... I engrave after I have turned the blank and before I polish ... I use Artist Acrylic Water base paint to fill and build up until it's flush and then Micromesh to completion and then assemble.

Hope this helps

When I was doing laser engraving with an Epilog, this is the stuff I used. Color fill. This won't fill the engraving you will still feel it it just adds color. If I remember we never had to mask anything just wipe it off before it dries. Worked great on acrylics.

I might have to try that.
