I typically finish my pens with a CA finish (Fanger's Finish) I have been looking at the Enduro Finishing Package from Beartooth. How does it compare to a CA finish? What are the (+'s & -'S) of a Enduro Finish over a CA? Any photos of pen with a Enduro Finish? Don't think I have ever seen one.

Hi Jim

Go to the photo section and do a search on enduro. You will find 18 photos of nice looking pens finished with enduro. For the other part of your question, i'll say try it and make your how opinion, because you will get about 200 different argument pro and cons here and every one of them will be good in their hown way and come from very credible and skillfull turners. I have used enduro only a few times. It looks very similar to a CA finish, but I think the grain pops a little more with CA. The biggest advantage, for me anyway, of CA over enduro is time. CA takes only a few minutes while enduro requires several hours of cure time between steps. CA fumes don't bother me, but if you are sensitive to them, enduro would be a better choice.

Go to the photo gallery and find the album for wayneis. I don't think Wayne uses anything but Enduro on wood and his finish is second to none, but it does take a week or two before it is completely hardened.

On the plus side, Enduro is slightly harder, it accents most wood slightly better, and it is more user friendly than CA glue. Neither is as as clear or as brilliant a finish as lacquer.

The negative is that it takes longer to apply, especially in cooler weather.

A pencil test is an old standard for testing the hardness of a finish. The finish hardness is rated at the hardest sharp pencil lead that WILL NOT scratch the cured finish. A 7H pencil lead will consistently scratch a CA glue finish for me, while it takes an 8H to scratch the Enduro finish when both are cured 4 weeks.
