Anybody else watching the Dec. 20/21 total lunar eclipse?
It's pretty incredible. Right now (10:31 AK time) the shadow is almost completely covering the moon. I'm getting it all on my camera. I'll post photos maybe tomorrow or Wed...

I watched it here PST until 11:25 PM and then the clouds that were full of rain rolled in and the rest of it was obscured. Until it started raining it was very amazing to watch. There was a red haze around the moon and the shadow slowly moved upward from the
8 o'clock position to cover the moon. I was listening to NPR and they had some astronomers talking about it and they said that a lunar eclipse on the same day as the winter solstice had last ocurred during the time of Galieo in the 1640's. I think that is pretty amazing. Glad that someone else saw it. It will be neat to see your pictures.

Just came in from watching and taking pics, camera died after about 200 or so shots. We'll see how all of them came out, but it was a pretty spectacular sight to see!

I managed to stay awake until 3:45 am. It was just too cold and way too late to stay up any longer. It was pretty cool though. Both the kids set their alarms to get up and see it. I did see a shooting star while out there looking at it.

Hope my wish comes true!!!!

This is what we got.

Not too horrendous for hand-held point-n-shoot photos.

Well, this is the first time I've tried to add pics, but here are my photos. They had to be shrunk down so much to post, so they aren't as clear, but you get the idea...
Taken with my Canon EOS Rebel XS and my EF 100-400mm lens.

Silas, do not apologize for your photos. Believe it or not, the moon is one very hard thing to get good exposures of. Your eclipse shots are outstanding. Your Rebel and glass did you a good job. You must also have a good tripod or are amazingly steady handholding.
Thank you for the photos. It was 100% cloudy here from mid afternoon till now.
Charles

Thanks Charles!
Yes, I had a sturdy tripod, and I had my camera set on a 2 second timer. That way I was not touching the camera when the photos were taken. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been nearly as clear!!
