I finally got to work with the Ebonite that the guys at work vulcanized.
I'm not real impressed with Ebonite after trying it, but that is just my opinion.

This is the unvulcanized rod I was given.

This is after it was vulcanized. It was pre-cured under 50 tons psi then put in the autoclave.

This is the finished keychain I made from a piece of it.
While turning, there is a smell and taste like someone farted in your mouth, but it does polish nicely with noticably more effort than with plastics.

Thanks for looking.

Could have done without the discription. I guess it is a nice key ring but I have an image that I can't get past now. :curse:

Suddenly I feel the need to brush my teeth but that stuff looks really slick. I gonna have to get some along with a respirator.

Wow, looks good! I have used ebonite but don't remember getting that shiny of a finish. How did you finish it? CA?

It's pretty soft and pliable before vulcanizing, but is very hard after.

There is nothing applied to it. It was treated to the same process as all the other materials I use. It just takes more effort and patience.

If you dont like it, you could always send it my way!! I dont mind the smell, and never noticed a taste...

I dont like where this post is leading so i will stop there.
