Hello All. I wanted to turn a pen out of real solid ebonite. I dont know much about the material. I was wondering if anyone knows where to get it from and how it turns. Stay safe.

It's pretty easy to get. There are a few US sellers. I got a LOT from a guy in india, found him on Ebay. (Ranga) Actually ordered twice from him. I love working with it. It dulls tools really quick. Easy to sand and polish. But there are no surprises with it. I NEVER put a finish on it.

Just made this a few weeks ago:

I have not turned all the different ebonites from different countries.

German ebonite was the originator, it smells terrible (burning rubber) and is very difficult to get a scratch-free shine. I have turned German several times. I am told the Japanese has less odor and the Indian seems to be easy to work with, but I have been told there are voids in it, from time to time.

Good luck, expand your turning horizons!!!
