A friend of mine asked me to make a pen for his daughter from a old branch off of his sweet gum tree. They are beautiful trees, especially in the fall. Anyway, I've seen casters use the spiked ball sweet gum pods to make pen blanks but I've never seen a pen made from the wood. I guess now I can see why. Liquidambar styraciflua must be latin for "the rice cake of wood" - very bland. So I tried to spruce (pun intended) it up with some burn lines and trans tint dye (honey amber and aqua). GluBoost finish.
Better, I think, so I thought I'd share. The kit is the Blade Button Click in gunmetal. Stay well! Russ
