Well, the bearings on my Dust Collector motor have been letting me know that they are going out. It is interesting, sometimes it sounds fine and other times it sounds like there is gravel in the bearings. My FrankenCollector is built around the 2HP Harbor Freight motor and fan housing. I have upgraded the impeller to the 12" (11.75" actual) Rikon. The motor is oriented with the shaft vertically. If used as designed with the whole HF package, that motor shaft is horizontal. I believe that my issue is the cheap Chinese bearings in the motor and the lateral stress on the bearings created by the load on them with a vertical shaft orientation.
Anyway, enough for the back story...
Last night, with the help of a good friend, we disassembled the dust collector and the motor and successfully removed the bearings. This morning I ordered replacements (SKF) to be delivered by Amazon tomorrow (
).
Below are a few photos of my dust collector in its current state.
I'll update when it is back up and running.
