Anyone ever use something like this mini cyclone set up with your shop vac? I'm in a temporary rent house and my big two-stage dust collector is in storage. In the mean time, I'm using my shop vac while turning. The strings from acrylic blanks wrap around the shop vac filter and clog it up quickly. Would this eliminate that?

Yes. This system will drop almost everything but the fine dust into your collection can. You can buy just the top and use a garbage can for the bottom. I have used a set up like this with my dust collection system for many years. Saves removing the bags to empty, and keeps all the materials neatly contained in the can when you need to empty it. Put a trash bag liner in the collector for clean no dust removal. Jim S

I have a similar cyclone in one of my shops, it works great even with collecting the acrylic strings. I also have a homemade version using a small traffic cone for the shape, I paid about $12 for the cone on Amazon and had the rest of the parts in my junk plumbing pile. The second version was cheaper, works as good, but not as slick and pretty.

Add a Thien Baffle under the lid and it should work even better.
