I currently own a Delta 50-850 DC. The new ones ( 50-850A ) come with a canister and plastic collection bag, but I got this many years ago. I have added the plastic collection bags. I think I would like to add a canister or anything to get it to 1 micron. Any one have any suggestions as to brand or type? I do have a Jet air cleaner. My shop is about 900 sq ft. and the air cleaner is mounted in the middle. I also do a fair amount of flat work. Maybe I do not need 1 micron? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for your help

The finer the better. Wynn Environmental has a kit that consists of everything you need to put a 99.99% efficient 0.5 micron cartridge filter on your system for $106.

Then if you want to make it so you only have to empty your plastic bag once ever few years add one of these on a 35-gallon trash can in front of your DC.

In the four years since I put one of these in front of my DC I've only built up about 1/2" of very fine dust in the bag. Everything else; big dust, sand paper, wood chunks, plastic, etc; all end up in the trash can.

Thanks for the help Greg/Ron---
Greg isn't there supposed to be some sort of device that cleans the inside of filter by rotating it? I was told that you must never clean out the filter with air...or is that necessary?
Thanks
Mike

Some have it, some don't. For those that don't, like this one, just light taps on the outside to knock loose whatever is sitting on the surface (when the DC is off) works well. With the pre-separator I haven't had to "clean" my filter yet.

I have an old HF DC that I converted with some parts from Wynn. Great people! I then took a thirty gallon trash can, made a lid for it to stop the scavenging and brought the intake in the side and out flow out the top. Almost nothing gets into the collection bag but, it all stays in the can. I am planning to cut a hole in the can and put plexy over it to watch the level.(not done yet). The can is mounted above the motor so the whole thing is portable. No pic yet, can be if wanted.

If you are more "do it yourself" the Thien separator really works. And this design takes up no more floor space than the DC itself. http://www.cgallery.com/smf/index.php?topic=346.msg1885#msg1885

They also have some designs on that site for 5-gallon paint-bucket separators to put in front of your shop vac. One was made from styrofoam and works great. Cheap improvement for the shop vac.

I have added the Thien baffle to my JET DC1200 and in three weeks of use I have about a half cup of fine dust in the canister filter. Everything as far as dust goes into the bag. I also have a pre-separator on the system just before the JET and this thing gets all the big stuff and protects the impellers of the DC. Oh yea, total cost of the MDF ... just about PRICELESS!

Adding the Thien baffle inside the bottom of the intake ring just above the plastic bag retainer of the JET and approximately 1" just below the intake opening is doing a great job for me. This way one does not have to go to all the work of making a lid, etc. I have done the same thing to the Harbor Freight 2 HP collector and the bag is almost dust free after three weeks of use with my table saw!

Check out this site for pictures and information. http://www.cgallery.com/jpthien/cy.htm

The 'Discussion Forum' at the bottom of the page is excellent for suggestions and experiences others have had with the baffle.

Hey thanks guys...
I have not considered a separator yet, because my shop is mobile for the most part....I roll my tools out into the garage, I have it set up well after years of thought, so I can tear down and set up it 10 minutes or so....will a separator can slow me down...have you attached yours to your DC base or is it a fixed set up?
