My dad's done woodworking for years and tho has a decent dust collector AND Jet air filter he only uses either of them when he thinks of it or when it's convenient or both..... Some of his tools like the contractor saw don't even has a hose hookup. He's 70+ and the hard headed/set in his ways type where his health is concerned and has constant congestion/throat clearing. I suspect that the majority of this is due to the dust but .... he still won't use the dust equipment near enough so I've decided to dig in and upgrade his shop as best I can, spruce up what's there, etc..... I remember seeing where someone had setup a system so when they turned on a machine (ie. lathe, bandsaw, etc...) the dust collector would automatically turn on but now I can't find it, anyone know a link to such information?
Also, his lathe is a Delta full size model with the sliding headstock.... not sure the proper term or model, but you can slid the headstock all the way to the end to turn the end of bowls without climbing on your lathe bed. I've found all sorts of articles on building dust collectors for lathes with fixed headstock but I've not found any articles NOR have I come up with a particularly good solution on my own. Anyone have any ideas how to rig up an easy to use and useful dust collection point for this type of moveable head lathe?
