A bunch of years ago I bough a Oneforall Kameleon remote. Never got it to work for my gear.

Fast forward to today. I stumbled on it going through some stuff. My gear has completely changed since I bought that thing. So I figured I'd give it a shot. DVD player, cable box, and VCR and went smooth. The Syntax Olevia TV however, not so much.

Read through the manual and found it has learning functionality! GAH! How did I not notice that before?!?!?!

Used the TV's remote to program the Kameleon and it works! I even was able to program a one button macro for the wife that turns the cable box on, the TV on, and sets the channel to her favorite weather station.

How could I have left this rather expensive remote in a box all these years?!?!?!

Hmm... Maybe that was my problem?!?!?!

I didn't have the actual paper manual. Along with the bag, packaging, and receipts, manuals hit the trash right away.

Today I had to download the manual as a PDF to program it.

I have boxes and boxes of stuff I have hidden in the basement for me like an amnesiac Christmas present. I just recently stumbled across the new handle grips for my drill press.

Manuals are just someone else's idea of how your new toy might work. Besides, they most likely were written in another language and translated by computer that does not understand context. I almost always lay them aside until I can not manage to make the item work. Manual reading is always the last resort and usually by then, my wife has cleaned up and the manual is gone.

I love the Harmony remotes. It even remembers state of devices so switching from "watch TV" to "watch movie" doesn't turn off the tv, just switches input, turns off cable box, turns on surround sound, etc, etc. All very easily configured via their website.
