I'm wondering where a good place to start looking might be to learn how to duplicate your designs. I'm not talking about a super expensive attachment for the lathe. I'm would like to think about what one might do without that.

I'm also not really thinking about pens, but I definitely would like to apply the technique for pens. My initial thought is for some wine glasses, so making a matching "set" seems like a reasonable goal.

My best thought to this point is to make a template out of poster board. But beyond that, I don't really know how to implement a template. I know that might sound weird, but it is the best way I can describe my novice status.

So, any help or idea would be greatly appreciated!

The posterboard is a good idea for larger pieces. Keep holding it up to the project until it matches. You just need 1/2 the profile. Pens it gets easy to make one almost exactly like a different one by making a few. Practice is the key.

I usually use a story board for marking repetitive things like ferrule placement or if I want to make the same style over again. I use stiff cardboard for making story boards. It holds up to being used over and over. After I make a few of anything it seems to be much much easier and I use the story boards less. But having a stack of different ones lets me go back and make something even a few months later that is close in looks to the original.

good advice. I also didn't realize that PSI duplicator was that price. I thought I saw something in the $300 range.

I'll give the poster board a go tomorrow.
