I am just now getting back into turning and I sold my drill press last time around . I tried using my pin jaws and a drill chuck on my headstock and it had a little wiggle as any tailstock does and left a really bad bore in the blank . So I am thinking I need to get a pen drilling vise again and drill press . I was wondering whats a good drill press right now ?

HA, my rule is never sell any tool unless you have already replaced it with something better! Can't help up on what is a good drill press these days. I'd take my time and watch Craigslist try to pick up an older model that is heavy and has a long quill stroke. This is because I'm old do I like older things. Although I'm not heavy and I don't have a long quill stroke..

My tailstocks do not have wiggle. I spent an afternoon figuring out that they needed to be pushed firmly against the rear rail for best alignment and with GOOD drill bits, drill more consistently than the drill press.

Check your gear including your chuck, taper, and drill bits.

Drill press. Look for a 4-1/2 or so capacity if you want to do the long pens and pencils.

Not sure what type (bench or floor model) or how much wanting to spend. Recommend buying a drill press locally. If there is a problem can always exchange or get refund easier.

Can always check reviews on any model that interest you on-line. Lowes, Harbor Freight, Home Depot and others often have owner reviews if not check amazon.com.
