I updated my HF drill press vice with black hammered spray paint and a turned handle.

Neat ! . There's no problem recognizing that as a pen vise !!!

I've been thinking of doing that with a flyswatter but need to find someone to cast me a blank with embedded dead flies !!!

I remember a little bar in central California with the only bathrooms in the gas station across the parking lot. Bathrooms had no doors. First cold snap and there would be a carpet of dead flies crunching under your feet. Good place to scoop up a bag of dead flies this fall if you want the location. :)

Thanks, but I would probably have trouble importing those into Canada !!

But, come to think of it, this would be a unique idea for a blank !!

Hmmmm .... please give me the location .... latitude and longitude, please, to save any confusion !!

I believe you do casting ... right ? :)

Beaut idea, well done. I bought forever ago an X Y Axis Vice and fitted prismatic jaws over here from a dealer, they are available at Grizzly making a versatile set up from every which way to hold irregular cut burl chasing the grain etc. You could fit the jaws to your Vice as well. Kind regards.

Peter

On the other hand this is my present set up forv drilling blanks using the prismatic jaws in a vice similar to the Vice in the original post, pointing out it will do everything required for drilling blanks.

I went to a garage sale it turned out to be a mate of mine selling this drill press. In the next week he rang me and asked would I like the XY mammoth unit. I am a big bloke it took all I had to carry and instal, what a ripper with micrometer adjustment.

Now I stress that same cheap vice does the job real well.

Peter.
