Drill Chuck Works Loose

Hi All
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. My 2MT drill chuck
works loose from the headstock when I'm not using the tailstock.
This usually happens when I'm turning stoppers and it gets pretty frustrating. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I've had this problem too and solved it with a suggestion that someone here made. Put it in the headstock and then give it a couple of raps with a rubber mallet. It worked for me.

I use a drawbar, washers and a wingnut through the headstock and into the jacobs. Keeps everything nice and tight.

Bryan, Lou is right. The only way you can ensure that it won't work loose without the assistance of the tailstock is using a drawbar. If you have a scroll chuck, use that to hold your stopper mandrel.

Sounds like the taper isn't perfectly clean. Check for rust, burrs, etc. to prevent the nice full contact that makes the taper work properly. You should be able to shove it in by hand and get it to hold properly.

Drawbar? Is that what somebody else called a drawbolt recently?

Thanks Guys, appreciate all the help. I'll try cleaning the taper first. If that doesn't work, I'll go the drawbar route.
