I have been keeping my eye out on Craigs list for a good scroll saw for occational use, but I would like to get a decent one. A Dremel 1800 18" showed up for $95. Is this a good machine/price? If not what would be a good one to keep an eye out for in the used market for about $100.

Dremel is not bad for the price. It was my first scroll saw and lasted for about 2 years. I replaced it with a Hawk. I know dewalt has been getting good ratings as well but priced higher then the Dremel.
It depends on what your are going to use it for?

Not quite sure what I am going to use it for, mostly odds and end of internal cuts or pen blank segmenting, messing around. One project in mind is an inlay type pen blank.

I own a Dewalt and I would not buy another one. It is too hard to get my blade square to the table, among other issues. That should work for you for your purpose.

The dremel should work for you. Also check out lowes I believe they have a Task Force scroll saw simular to the Dremel.

I have a Dremel and a DeWalt. The Dremel worked well but the DeWalt cuts a little smoother. For what you are talking the Dremel will be fine. If you are getting into a lot of scrolling and intricate work then I would look for an upgrade.

This (the one for about 100 bucks) is the sam saw I bought for $180.00 10 years ago. The Blade changing system was far superior to the Dremel's when I bought mine, I assume it still is. This is a real decent saw, and for the price, its even better.
Good luck with the new toy [:)]

I have two Dremel's a smaller one and a two speed 16".. the power switch has gone bad on the high speed portion.. the slow speed actually runs faster than the high. Other than that, I like the saw. The little one is good for most small applications.

David, I have done a ton of research on this before buying a DeWalt for myself. The dremel is a great saw and the biggest problem known with this saw is the power switch. If I wasn't doing portrait cuttings, I would have opted for the dremel in a heartbeat. It sounds like you found yourself a great deal. The Dremel is a very smooth running saw and would be a great buy for that price.

I have a Dremel 1680 16" Var. speed which has been working very well for the past 4 years. I am quite happy with this unit for all my Intarsia and Scroll work. I don't think you can go too far wrong at that price.
