I picked up a block of Double Dyed Stabilised Maple Burl from an internet site as a treat for myself and got 2 pen blanks and several box lid slices from it. I've never turned a cigar pen before so, low and behold I get 2 cigar kits and thought, how will I dress these up. Eureka, I'll use the Maple Burl.
So enough of my ruminations on the inner workings of my mind, here's the gory details of the pen.
Kit - Cigar from Timberbits, Australia
Blank - Double Dyed Stabilised Maple Burl from Appalachian Timbers
Sanded to 800 abranet
Polished to 12000 MicroMesh + eee. I then used the Meguires Plastx and got a flat finish. I stripped that off and used 5 coats of Aussie Oil, that allows the figure to Pop.
