Now that I started engraving, turn a lot more wood that I have in the past.
I turned and CA finished a blank labeled white oak. This is the first time that I ever turned oak. I performed all of the steps that I usually do, and used the materials that I usually do. However, when I applied the first coat of thin CA, I noticed this black grain. stain, whatever it is.
Does white oak have black "grain"? I Googled around and I could not find that feature in an photos or descriptions.
I did have red oak kitchen cabinets when I lived in NY, and I remember some darker, ashy, grain. But this blank had no hue.
Thanks!
