Do you give boxes with your pens?

I guess my question is: When do you give boxes with your pens? I have an order for 20 rescue squard pens. It is their 50th anniversary. The customer wants to give them as prizes to raffle. I know boxes would look good to get them in, but what about after? I mean if the EMT's carry them in their pocket they are not going to carry the box around.

I would deffenitly go with a small bag. If it were going to some one I care about as a gift then I would make them a box, or maybe as a desk set.
 
Hello neighbor!! On the lower end pens I usually use the velvet bags.But if it is a highend pen or if I am shipping it I place it in a box.Not only to protect it but also it shows that you are a pro and want things nice.
 
If you use a nice box and discretely place your name on it, it is also a business card and one that won't be thrown away.

I haven't been turning for long but I do plan on selling pens in the future...once I build up an inventory. I plan on selling most pens in boxes and the lower cost ones in pouches with the option of adding a box. One place I found during a google search is Novel box company. They have single and double pen boxes from .63 up to 2.15. Only problem is you have to order in quanity. They also do impinting but I haven't looked into how much that costs. I am not associated with or connected to this company in any way. Just wanted to put an option out there. Also I haven't ordered any of these boxes yet...I thinking about calling and asking if they could sent me a sample before I order any....don't want to get stuck with a bunch of boxes that I don't like.

Anyone out there ever try this company and want to report their experiances...good or bad?

I don't think the level at which I'm turning is deserving of a display type wooden box yet. Them cheap cardboard boxes to me are useless, at least the velvet pouches are kept by people.

Scott, the inexpensive cardboard boxes do have a good use, if you customer bought the pen as a gift the box gives the a wrapping unit.....:wink:

Point taken...guess it would be like trying to gift wrap a football without a box.

I usually offer a felt bag with most of the ballpoint pens I sell. or one of the clear, square tubes with my Rollerball pens. Then I offer the various boxes available as an option. Recently, with my higher-end pens, I've started including a nice box, but in those cases I've figured the cost of the box into the overall cost of the package.
 
Always a box. Woodcraft has great black paper boxes that are just more than a dollar each. They are simple, cheap and classy.

I've also had boxes made with my logo engraved in a brushed metal band across the top, this I use for expensive pens and shows.
 
I'm a newbie at this but I've started giving velvet pouches with most of my pens. I think it adds a lot to the pen wheather it's a gift or a sell. I've not done any high end pens yet but if I did I think a box would be in order.
 
I use Velvet pouches with the lower and some of the mid priced stuff, the mid to higher priced stuff a box,and the high priced items I am making custom boxes for each pen or pen set.

I don't think I would be happy if I bought a $2-300.00+ pen and it came in a cardboard, or fake wood box. So make my own.
 
If you received the pen that you plan to make how much of a statement would it make to you if it was in a display box? I tend to put everything in a box for display value. Just build that into the cost of the pen and you're covered. Give it at cost and your conscious will be clear. Just my opinion
