I might be taking the DIY thing a bit far, but I'm sure I'm not the only one of us with wood stacks tucked in most unused corners (and some over-used corners). So I usually start with "What could I make...". Still playing with both of these ideas, though I'm likely committed to the "water not fall" display -- it just needs some tweaks (this is my prototype). I like the waterfall display idea so I can get some height to the display, but those acrylic ones they sell are so unsteady -- more like a "pens fall" stand...

The tray may make it to the show table as well. I made a couple to start, thinking it might be a good way to categorize the pens, whether by "topic" or price point. That ridged part in the middle? Metal landscape edging with some adhesive-backed felt-ish material, glued to the backer board.

Both are nice and good use of extra wood. The flat tray could be raised a bit by something under the back edge. I have a router table. Might be able to do something with it...rout grooves, add spacers to advance to the next cut, etc.
Edit: Low Country tells me you are from South Carolina. Miss the NC and SC fresh seafood!

I like your ideas, especially repurposing materials for a different look. Time to look around the garage for inspiration.
