I have a non pen project that I make a lot of, pretty much developed my own process. It requires a wood round with a perfectly centered pivot point. We all know it's usually not a good habit to remove whatever you have in a regular chuck unless it's necessary. That's what I've had to do though. So I bought a lathe spindle tap from Beall's and made a dedicated chuck. Happy to report it works amazingly well. Here's my original and the new spindle mount one.

A tap to create threaded wood blocks was one of the first accessories I bought when I got my new lathe, and I've used it a lot - everything from specialty mounting devices for turning to mandrels to hold sandpaper and buffing wheels. Its a very handy thing to have.

My lathe has a 1"x8tpi spindle, and I was able to order a tap through my local Ace Hardware - they were able to get it from their warehouse in two days with no added charge for shipping.
