I'm donating a few pens this year to silent auctions for charities or various sorts.

I'm wondering what - if anything - I should do about displaying them.

Should I just give them the pen and let the, figure it out, let them borrow a basic acrylic stand?

Any input? This is local stuff not art show, so I doubt they will have fancy stuff.

Has anybody made something for a single pen display for these types of things?

I don't think I have a picture of it, but for one auction I did, I just turned a wood base about 4" in diameter, finished it with some oil and put a step bit hole in the center and let the pen stand straight up for the display. Worked great and showed it off real nice!

What style pens? If you give then rollerball or fountain pens, someone will try to pull them apart instead of unscrewing them. So I would give them quality photos in an attempt to avoid this.
Other than that at least a cloth pen pouch would be nice.

I always put them in a gift box. The higher valued pen kits get the PSI large box with the see through window.

Out of the dozen or so I have contributed, most have done very well. One was stolen before it got delivered to the highest bidder; a beautiful amboyna burl with partial sapwood. I could not find another blank like it so just replaced it with amboyna burl. Still very attractive.

Themed pens that incorporate local sports teams colors do very well in these auctions, in my limited experience.

Oh the auctions. I have read on this forum so many good reports as well as some not so good reports of doing these. I think the last one we read about here the pen never made it into the auction but was used as a door prize or something on that line. There later was a dispute or something.

Make sure it goes to the designated place you want it to go. Things like that also grow legs so be aware of that too. Don't ask me how I know.

I had some one do that to a nice Jr. Gent. I was talking to some one and out of the corner of my eye I noticed a big fellow pull the threads out of the cap. I guess he though it was stuck then he walks off.

I did one last year and put the pen in a nice box and printed some info cards about it. Then we went to Ross/Marshall's and got a larger nice box and filled it with decorative shredded paper and put the pen and box in there open w/ the pen on display. Then we put it inside a clear plastic bag like you use for wine baskets and such. My wife put ribbon on it and made it real nice. The pen could be seen but not touched and if someone wanted to take it they had to make some noise. I tried to find some pics but was unsuccessful.

Use a gift box ( you can get the clear plastic ones for a couple $ ) and put your card in the box with the pen.

Here's what I came up with. Sorry for the poor lighting.

They said to have cards available so I included them in the display.
