Disassembly of Churchill center band

HI,

Has anyone ever disassembled the centerband piece on a churchill/el Grande?

I am nowhere close to cutting decent threads with a tap/die, and was thinking about using the threaded cap insert with the threaded nib section holder on a Churchill FP. I thought I'd ask the experts before destroying one on my own!

Chris---It doesn't appear to me that it's possible to take it apart without destroying it. You could probably shave the two outside bands down some, but from a design standpoint, you don't want all five bands to be the same width.
