I was given a pen to repair for a customer. Thought it would a matter of removing the hardware using a transfer punch. I didn't realize at the time that the center band is glued to the upper barrel. It's been forever since I made a PSI classic twist or designer pen. Any tips on removing the old center band without damaging the wood barrel? It has sentimental value to the customer so I need to be extra careful. Thanks

Never had an occasion to do what you are needing. Sounds like mission impossible. Let's wait for the others to answer. Wonder why the band was glued?

Do you really need to remove the centerband? I've refinished a few uppers without removing. Acetone will soften epoxy, but probably damage the wood. Heat will also soften it, not sure what 200 degrees would do to the wood. But those are the two methods I use when I need to liberate glue.

The reason I need to remove the center band is because the current hardware is satin chrome. I have found only chrome or gold to be available. If I could get a satin chrome kit - problem solved.

What specific kit are you looking for? Sometimes when kits are discontinued, the lower volume, specialty plating options, such as "satin chrome" are the first ones to disappear. Some IAP members might have one in their private inventory with the "satin chrome" plating. - Dave
