These are a bit of a stretch for me and we will see if folks like my efforts. The burls are Yellow box elder burl and fuchsia box elder burl. The yellow was very tough to turn and finish. My dialog while making that pen would work well on the show "Deadwood" though not audible. The other two are Conway colors from Exotic Blanks too. They turn like acrylic acetate = easily.

I guess at a minimum they are seasonally correct.

Your pens are beautifully done !!

I like the diamond knurling especially.

Having said that the finished pens are beautiful, I still am not totally sure that I really like the appearance of dyed Box Elder Burl.

Obviously, at least some of your customers seem to like them because of your successful sales.

Possibly there is no explanation ..... other than "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". . Comments ?

Though this endeavor called pen turning is very fun I need things to sell. The dyed box elder burl blanks from CSUSA are great sellers when correctly turned, finished smooth with CA and paired with a good kit. Blue has sold 8 times, red 3x, green 3x and purple twice. All with $125 price tags. That brings me back. This time I tried other colors to test the water.

The blue box elder though available from CSUSA probably came from someone at IAP.

While I have not sold all that many pens. My experience is that beauty is definitely an individual preference. I made about 50 pens for Christmas last year. I put them all in one box and let everyone choose their own present. It was so interesting watching and listening to people making a choice. Several that I didn't think would be a hit were the first to go and a few that I absolutely loved were still in the box at the end of the season.

My ugliest ever pen was within a trio of pen boxes holding a combined 96 pens. I showed them to my physical therapist and he selected the ugly one. Go figure, but he was happy.
