Our group submitted a spice rack to the recent AAW Conclave in
Richmond, VA. Each item was turned by a different member, including the stand and grinders. They had to be a very specific size inside and out, to sit in the recess of the stand, to fit under the shelf, to hold the plastic bottle and cap inside and to have a matching space for the engraving, designating the spice.
There were 10 collaborative projects submitted. Three
were in our category, Mechanical/Technical. Three more were in the
Fantasy category and the last four were entered in the Artistic
category. We did not win in our category but...
At the Live Auction Saturday night, our spice rack was the first item
up for auction. (The first item is not a good position as it often
takes the auctioneer a while to warm up the audience.) It sold for
$475. The purchaser was tickled pink! Ours was initially the only
collaborative project that was auctioned. Late in the live auction, a
second project that was the winner of the Fantasy category, entitled
Justice, was also offered for auction. It sold for $450. Thus,
our project fetched the highest bid among the collaborative projects.
Half of the $475 sale price will be returned to our chapter and half will go to the AAW Education Fund.
