Does anybody know how to remove a centerband from a designer kit? I've tried acetone to disolve the CA but it didn't help much. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
If you have a soldiering pencil and if you have left the CB proud of the cap, you could put it to the inside of the ring to warm it up. Basically there are two things that break down CA. Heat and Acetone. Other than the soldiering iron, I would try low heat on a toaster oven. Say 200 or so for a few minutes.
Try cold, in most cases brass will shrink faster than other metal. If the brass tubes shrink faster than the centerband, you maybe able to work it loose. Try the freezer, I would be afraid heat would ruin the pen blank.
I finally got it off. I tried heating it but the centerband did not seperate from the wood. But it did help. It seperated the wood from the brass so I turned it down and just pulled it off (pen was already messed up). Then I drilled it out with a 10 mm and it was as good as new. Not a scratch on it.
