You are so numb when you leave that you believe them when they say "I don't expect it to hurt later. Might be a little uncomfortable though". My dentist must be a masochist, if feeling like I have been kicked in the face is a little uncomfortable. And I have to be at work because because there is no coverage. My students are not going to be liking my attitude today.

800mg of Ibuprofen Should keep me less grumpy. We will see.

Sorry for your pain, but I know exactly what you mean. I had to drive 130 miles after 3 extractions. Fortunately I live on Lortab or Vicodin, have for 3 years. Even that didn't do much good. I was doing good to get out of Memphis with out any severe Road Rage!!

They call them Dent-ists ( one who make dent in you) so how did you think that him amaking dent in your jaws would not make any pain?:tongue:
Hang in there, it'll pass and let the kids get their way for one day then you can get yours soem other days. You'll feel better.
Hope you have a good day. Try thinking of being in Hawaii on the beach that makes you calmer. You won't be as grumpy.

Ken, I thought that you'd have Matthew grind those theeth down. That would be less painful. I hope you saved those theeth you can turn them to pens (mini ones that is)

You are lucky.

Novocaine doesn't work on me. They don't even bother giving it to me anymore. So I sit in the chair and they go to town with me feeling everything.

Yeah just let that Ibuprofen kick in and you should be fine. Years ago I was out of town on travel after having wisdom teeth pulled and my tooth started killing me so bad I called the dentist back home and he recommended 800mg of Ibuprofen and it did wonders to reduce that pain. Turns out I had what he called a "dry socket" because the blood clot had fallen out and I had an exposed nerve.

My dentist gave me a form to fill out asking if I ever had food poisoning, rabies, hoof and mouth disease, heart trouble, ingrown toenails and all that junk. At the bottom of the form it said "other" and I promptly wrote in DEVOUT COWARD. It just ain't normal to enjoy someone getting two hands, air hammer, mirror, vacumn cleaner and water hose into ones mouth. Buster, if you read this I'm just exaggerating a little!!

Ouch!

They would have to strap me down because there is no way I could sit still for any drilling. Hurts just thinking about it.

This reminds me of the guy who was at the dentist's office and reads a sign in the wall:
"Painful Extractions: $500.00; Painless Extractions: $100.00"
He asks the Dr. if that sign is correct and the Dr. says yes, so he asks for a $100.00 dlls painless extraction.
The Dr. takes a pair of pliers and starts pulling the tooth. The patient starts screaming in pain, and the Dr. says:

"Shhhh.... don't scream or it'll be $500.00" :tongue::biggrin:

My wife and our dentist have a system, if I am more than 10 minutes late they call her and she starts hunting for me! I would rather face down a ****ed brown bear with a wet noodle than go to a dentist!

I had to have a tooth removed a few years back, it got infected. Ever see what bone does when its infected? Well it grows uncontrollably normally by shooting out a bunch of bone spurs!!!!!! Had to have my gums cut open and my JAW GROUND down on 6 separate occasions! "I'm sure this will be the last procedure Rick, I've never seen an infection cause this much bone growth." Well nice to know I am special but that crap hurts!

So it turns out that if your root canal gets infected, they drill a drain hole through your gums into the root. Tickles a little, but not too bad.

Dentist-speak, translated:

"This might sting a bit." (Get ready for the sharp, piercing pain that only a hypodermic can inflict.)

"You might feel some discomfort." (More pain, but distributed over a larger area.)

"We're almost done." (We're not even halfway finished with you yet.)

"In a few minutes, it'll be over." (Until then, those few minutes will seem like an eternity of agony.)

"You're doing really well." (Everybody screams in pain during this kind of procedure--it's normal.)

"Your mouth will be numb for a while after you leave." (Everyone at work except you will notice that you're drooling all over yourself.)

"Don't eat any food for a few hours." (You won't feel like putting anything in your mouth for the rest of the day.)

Not by much

Root canal last september did not fix the problem instead it was an abcess had something called an apiectomy? Cut your gums open scrape out the abcess, nip off the tip of the root and scrape all around so the blood would flow and the bone can regrow around the tooth roots. During the suturing the stuff starts to wear off she asks if I can feel it? I said if Patrick Swayze can handle it in Roadhouse so can I. She gave me more and she was right.
Now my face is swollen and I have a black eye. Had mine on Monday, took the 7 sutures out today I could barely stand it.
Been there, done that and I feel your pain.

Could just as well be a turkey baster, given my aversion to needles. I don't have many phobias, but those things give me the willies.

Novocaine didn't work on me either. I dreaded dentist visits and eventually stopped going altogether. Then I discovered sedation dentistry. The greatest thing for people who have problems with dentists. I take one little pill an hour before my appointment and the dentist gives me one when in the chair. Then its off to lala land and I don't feel a thing. Only down side is that someone needs to drive me to and from the dentist. I can't speak highly enough of sedation dentistry.

I read about a woman dentist the other day who's ex boyfriend went to see her and while he was sedated she pulled all of his teeth out. True story. But I gotta say he was not bright to see her in the first place.
