I have two 10 inch Delta Midi's. One is fully functional, the other has a bad motor (or so I was told when I picked it up). I originally intended to get a VS motor kit from PSI, but I"ve read that those were under powered. And now replacement motors are listed as obsolete. I really want to go VS if I can and I want to get the other running because 2 of my grandkids want me to teach them to turn. But I want them turning next to me as well, hence the need to get the other one up and running. Do any of you know of an option other than the PSI 1/2 hp VS kit?

Have you considered swapping the motors in your lathes to see if it really is dead? It might just be something simple like a switch or wire on the one lathe.

No, Pete, I haven't even taken it out of the box. But I wouldn't need to swap motors to test the switch. I have a multimeter for that. For the moment, I'm running on the assumption that the turner I got it from knew what he was talking about.

psi variable speed motor

i know that you want other options but i just wanted to say that i have done the psi motor upgrade twice once on a jet 1014 and once on a delta la 200 and i could not ask for more. the only other option that comes to mind is to take your motor to a repair shop or just maybe someone has thier old motor from doing the upgrade.

Bob, do you find that it has plenty of power? I like to turn small bowls and things on my small lathe as well as pens.

If the elec. motor is bad, take it to a re-wind shop and ask them to make a sw. to put it on variable speed. Should be easy, and cheaper in the end.
