delta lathe question

I recently bought a used delta 14" lathe. I am finding that the motor is vibrating slightly which is carrying over to the mandrel when turning pens. Could this just be a matter of not having enough weight on the base (ie: load it up with sand bags) or am I looking at a problem with the motor?

Probably not a weight issue. Takes more spinning mass then a pen blank to get that much vibration. Might be the bearings.

How do I determine for sure that it is the bearings? If so, can they be replaced? How?

If you have a reeves drive there really ain't much you can do----if not a link belt my be the answer.
Our Delta-----the way the motor hangs out in the air---not enough support---just make sure the bolts are tight.
