I've always used a Delta 46-460 and the only issue I have with the unit is the tail stock does not fit the bed as 'tightly' as I would like it to. I also realize this is a sub $1000 piece of equipment but I can not afford to use a very expensive piece of equipment for what to me is a hobby. I have turned only pens on it so far so I cannot speak to turning bowls or spindles but I feel it would do just fine. Plenty of power and the variable speed within each wihtin each pulley range. I bought mine off the floor of a local dealer with the stand, IIRC I paid $600

If Amazon offers free returns, it may not be a bad deal. The recent reviews were good.

I have owned this Delta lathe for 6 years, with moderate use, and have experienced no failures, nor did I detect anything not working as advertised. I like it a lot. The issue of some degree of 'looseness' of the tailstock riding and guided by the ways is pretty much common to many, if not most, wood lathes. (No experience with the expensive end of the selection of wood lathes.) A workaround that works is to first determine simple alignment of head stock (HS) to tailstock (TS) by mounting centers in both, slide them together, and note the amount and type of offset when the TS is locked down. Often there is an adjustment of the headstock that can be done...loosen bolts, align, tighten bolts. The next step is to deal with the looseness. (Do a search for detailed steps.) There is some method holding the TS as you tighten it down that will bring the best alignment, compensating for the looseness: with TS unlocked, push away, pull toward, holding from above and twist either CW or CCW. Identify which of those will yield the best alignment (check with TS locked down), then make it a habit to do that every time you lock down the TS. (It becomes a habit, and you will do it without having to even think about it.) This approach applies to the majority of mid- an low end wood lathes.

That is a GREAT price on the Delta!

How much was this, it seems that when I first looked it was lower than $588. Did it go up?

Amazon is very bad about going up and down on their prices. A couple of days ago it was over $200.00 cheaper than it is now. Tomorrow it may be higher or it may go back down. I have learned if you find a good deal on amazon you better buy it quick before the price changes!!

It's not Amazon. Since most of Amazon is completely automated it just reacts to the sellers pricing.

So if someone has a surplus of an item and they are an Amazon seller in good standing, nothing stops them from dropping to a rock bottom price to liquidate the inventory and once it's gone the price goes back to the price of the next seller eligible for the buy box.

Lots goes into Amazon pricing and I'd be happy to share the way it was up until the point I stopped developing repricing apps a few years back.
