Delta 46-460 owners question

Hi,
I just received a new Delta 4-460 lathe and the motor is making a "ticking noise". Similar to when a kid attaches a playing card to a bicycle and it runs against the spokes. Not that loud, it's actually pretty soft, but its a steady "tick, tick,tick tick sort of sound. I removed the belts from the pulleys and it's definitely coming from the motor.
Wondering if any other owners have experienced this or have thoughts as to what it might be.

I've had mine for about a year now and haven't heard any strange noise(s) The best bet would be to contact Delta's customer support. I've always had very good experiences with them.
 
I've had mine about a year as well and no ticking sound. Just went out and tried it again. Nice and quiet.
 
Check to make sure a shaving has not caught on the fan shroud and is contacting the motor cooling fan. That happened to me the other day. It drove me crazy trying to find it.
 
Problem resolved.... gone

Well thanks for all the great information, tips, thoughts and experience. All it needed was a good "exorcism". Following the comments of several users, here and elsewhere, that "the noise went away after about an hour of use", I did the following:
1- I set the belt on the middle pulley
2- I set the speed control midway
3- I turned on the lathe
4- I left the shop for 45 minutes
5- I poured myself a glass of wine and chanted the mantra.... noise, noise, go away I want to turn some wood today.
6- I returned to the shop and the noise is gone
7- I'll wait to turn until tomorrow, since wine & turning don't mix (at least not for me)

Mine does that too.I noticed it the other day when wet sanding.All the other times,I have the dust collector going,and with wearing ear protectors on top of that,I never noticed it.I have it in the middle sheave. Tick...........tick..........tick....just like you described.

I'll have to keep an eye on it.Luckily,there is the 5 yr warranty behind it.
The warranty station is the Dewalt store on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I had to get my variable speed feature replaced last week.I've got 4 years left...

Heck you guys live in CA so the wine form CA should be cheap for you all. so go get your wine and see if the magic will get rid of the noise. it did for mark.
 
Yup, it was a California Merlot that did it..... or maybe it was the brushes.... ahhhhh, I finally understand free will!

I had a similar noise in mine and found that one of the grooves in the belt had not been moulded properly. The groove was almost full of rubber. I used an exacto knife and cut the excess rubber out and now you can hardly hear the lathe running - with hearing protection you have to look at the switch or the turning area to see if anything is moving.
 
Last night, after going back out and 'denuding' the lathe, yes, there is a definite 'ticking' coming from the motor. It almost sounds like a brush ticking.
 
I had this exact same thing (I think). Drove me nuts for a couple months.

Run the lathe at the lowest speed and watch the belt. If it is the same as what I experienced, the click will come when the belt is in the same place each time. I thought the belt was bad, but I could find no visible defects.

For me, the issue was that the pullys were not aligned. You can try to get in with a straight edge to confirm, but space is tight.

I took off the belt, lossened the lower pully and moved it out (toward to door) then re-tightened. Quiet running ever since.

So I had to go listen to mine tonight.....It was like Glen's,where there was about 1 inch of the end groove on the belt that was not a groove,just rubber.Scraped it out with a tiny screwdriver.Now no ticking.Thanks for the tips everybody.
