I look around ebay looking for a steal or two. One thing I check from time to time is degassing chamber and found this Acrylic Cube Vacuum Degassing Chamber w Metal Base for Low Heat Applications | eBay

Now that seems overboard. Am I wrong on this or is there something I don't know. I for one if the guy gets that price all the more power to him, I am not calling him out in anyway, just wondering if there is something I am missing. I know the guy that makes them here is a lot cheaper, etc.

WOW, don't show Curtis this or he may have to skyrocket his price. Looks almost exactly like the ones Curtis used to make and sell. Think I will stay with him and his Cactus Juice. Like you said if he can get it more power to him the old adage applies, "Let the buyer beware" or as Barnum put it "there is a sucker born every minute."

I'll bet he will be holding onto that for a long time.

The auction title says "acrylic cube..."

The first line of the product description says "polycarbonate..."

Then under construction it says "acrylic" again.

Acrylic and polycarbonate are NOT the same. They don't have the same mechanical properties.

From looking at the pictures it is probably acrylic but he is asking polycarbonate prices. That material discrepancy alone would be enough to stop me from bidding.

There are less expensive ways of constructing a vacuum chamber that only has to get down to degassing pressure.

Find a suitably strong pot, get a 1" thick acrylic lid and seal the gap between the two with poster putty/blue tack.

First off, don't get that one. It's way too much $$$ for what you need.

Questions
1) Are you wanting to vacuum degas resin before casting?
2) Are you wanting to vacuum stabilize with Cactus Juice?

Actually, regardless of these answers, here are some thoughts. For just stabilization, Curtis at TurnTex.com has some great chambers, but his 4" tubes aren't the best for degassing.

Personally, bought one of the stainless chambers from Exotic Blanks and have been very pleased. I stabilize and degas with it.
