Made some antler blanks today and wondered if these will turn well? With the pitted inner area looking like it will be in the cutting zone, do you think these will work out? I epoxied the tubes in.

Wondering if these will explode?

I've done quite a bit of antler in the past. Thin CA is your friend here. It will firm up the pith as you turn it to size. Take your time, wear a respirator and have fun.
So if I understand you correctly, I will CA now, turn a little and CA again as I approach the size I want? Thank you!

Also Rob, any tips on picking a spot on the antler for best pieces? One was from the base of the shed and the other was from a tine. I thought the tine would have less pith.

Here is some information on preparing deer antler.

Mark I do want to use your technique to hopefully retain some of the bark sometime. I did buy those rubber gripped vise grips to use like you are doing. With these pieces I chose to square them on my table saw and put them in blank jaws for easy center drilling. I was surprised to see how much of the marrow area showed up. I feel like the outcome will not be as nice with the pith being so big.

I will give it a go tomorrow and see how it turns out. Thanks for the video.
