I am looking to get into hollow forms at some point ahead. I have the Carter and Sons hollow roller setup but no tool so I am considering making my own deep hollowing carbide tool. I think ideally the tool would be able to do hollow forms up to 12-14" tall. My current thought is I need about 30" of steel (leaving 24-25" exposed after inserting it into the handle) and assume 5/8" or 3/4" diameter round steel would be ideal for that depth. I'd love to hear any advice on dimensions, type of carbide cutter to use (I have several larger and smaller cutters from EWT and AZ carbide on hand already but open to getting more. I have a great steel supplier near me as well and plenty of stock that would work for a handle. Thanks for reading and any advice you may have.
