Does anyone have any input on the Harbor freight Dust Collector?
It has a good price, but how good is it? I just dont want anything that sounds like jet engine running in my basement.:airplane:

Thank you
Terry

I don't own the big one but I do have the smaller one. It is loud. I understand the bigger one has very, very good suction. The bag will need upgraded to a 1 micron bag. For that price it is a hell of a steal. I paid more then that for the portable one that doesn't work as well. I wish I had my tax return back now because I would buy one.

I have the 2hp one. It's one of the diamonds in the rough.

The bags are low quality so you either need to swap to better bags/filters or be willing to run it as is until enough of a cake forms to actually filter the harmful stuff.

It's a dull roar instead of a high pitched whine, but none of them are exactly quiet.

Worth the money I paid for it.

on the issue of noise. can they be fitted with a muffler like the one that is designed for cyclone DC's? I am not sure I can still find it but I used to have plans for building one at home. from what I have heard they go a long way toward taking the noise out of a DC because so much of the noise is actually coming out the exhaust end.

Just a thought if you can duct to the outside use a Rubbermaid garden shed for the DC this will put the noise outside and the dust also.

The problem with ducting to the outside is that if you heat or cool the air in your shop that you would need a return duct of your filtered air or have an increase in your heating/cooling costs.

I have the HF dust collector and find it excellent for my needs. All motors are noisy, and I do not find this motor to be excessively noisy.
