Cutting Lacewood blanks

I just made a trip to the candy store ..or in other words my local exotic hardwoods warehouse. I bought a couple of boards of lacewood, among other things, and was planning on cutting it up into pen blanks and got to wondering if anyone has ever cut lacewood on a 45 degree angle. I'm curious what it will look like. I might just do it but I hate to waste such a pretty piece of lacewood.

i always say that a wood that has end-grain that is perpindicular to the face will look nice as cross-cut or angle-cut.

As had been recommended to me by someone else, take one slice across the end and try a crosscut. Some wood does not take to well to crosscut turning. If it doesn't do well as crosscut, it probably won't do well as an angle cut.

I have turned it flat in both flat grain and about 30 degrees off -the look is completely different, but very interesting. Been several years, so that is all I really remember-it was desk magnifiers-so they were 2" disks, about 3/16" thick.

Angle - cross cut lacewood looks VERY different from normal qtrsawn lacewood, if your going to experiment, waste as little as possible.

It also might not be a good turn, lasewood has soft, but brittle grain.
