Turned my first bottle opener last night out of a piece of Hawaiian Curly Koa I had. The grain inflection is incredible! I think Koa just took over my favorite wood! I used PSI's bottle stopper 3/8-16 chuck and the diamter of that is a bit larger than the bottle opener flange so I think next time I will add a few pieces of 1/4" plywood as spacers and turn them down to the opener flange diameter so I can get a good rounded over mating finish on the end. Comments and criticism welcome (I have thick skin and know there are a lot of you out there that know wayyyyy more than I do!)

That looks very nice.

The idea of making a small scrap that fits over the mandrel is something I do with bottle stoppers so I don't have to measure. I use a waste piece of mdf.

Once you decide on the diameter you like were the hardware meets the handle it is a no brainer and you can pay more attention to turning the shape.
