Im still new to pen turning but have made alot of progress from simple single wood blanks to acrylic, 3d printed blanks, simple segments and even some more in depth segments. Im looking to make some high end fountain pens with a jowo #6 flex nib. I've seen alot of different nibs online but have no experience with a flex nib so not really sure where to start. Im looking for a nib that has alot of flex that isn't too expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Below is some of my most recent work but still much to do.

Nice pens!

Sadly, there are no real flex nibs (in the traditional meaning of the word) available at reasonable prices.

What JoWo call a "flex" (or "semi flex") nib can only be described as "not much softer than a nail". I have a couple, huge disappointment.

Some specialist nib-tuners have been able to do better, but still nowhere near the performance of the traditional dip-pen flex nibs

Thank you. Haha I'll keep that in mind. Im still new to fountain pens but made my first one a couple months ago. I want to try a flex nib and have them to sell at shows but not sure what to buy. What would you recommend for a decent flex nib?

Hi Shawn - honestly, I wouldn't recommend any of the ones I've tried so far - JoWo, Fountain Pen Revolution (FPR), some Jinhao that I found on Amazon, and a Noodlers.

I've placed an order for the Kanwrite nibs, call me a sentimental old optimist but I do hope to find one eventually. I might even try thinning the tines on one, I have a wide variety of rotary tools and sanding/polishing materials ;)

I had to take a break from making pens for a couple of years while I took care of somethings and moved a couple of times. :-)

But these nibs are what I am starting to use with my bepoke fountain pen projects.

Meister Nibs is operated by Brian Gray (who also owns Edison Pens). He is the US distributor of JoWo Nibs.

Welcome back to the lathe 😁

I purchase 95% of my nibs through Brian at Meister Nibs. I was fortunate to meet him at the DC Pen Show last year.
