Curious about over the head earplugd

Talking about the ones with the plastic headband and the earplugs are sticking out on the sides. Would they work around the lathe? Also I see these around the hospital on the coffee pots. I wonder who came up with this idea?

Have to see what the DB level is of the lathe then check the DB of the earplugs..
