Or should the plural of Stratus be Strati or Stratuses, I don't know... Anyway, both were stabilized by me, Black Ash Burl and Poplar Burl. The Ash is more of a 50/50 Burl and endgrain curly. The poplar has a pretty nice curl figure.

Beautiful work!! I would like to make some of these. How well does the Stratus mechanism work? Does it hold up over time?

Thanks, they are a nice click kit and not terribly expensive. The finished pen is on the heavy side, the ladies in my life find this uncomfortable, but I personally like the weight. I haven't ever used one as my personal pen, so I can't really comment on durability. Others have reported that the click button can break off fairly easily, there are some suggestions out there to use a wire or small nail with epoxy to add some stiffness to the plunger. Others have also reported that the tip of the pen is exposed when retracted, I've never had a problem with this but I'm very careful to not trim any of the tub when squaring. Disassembly can be tricky due to the plastic click mechanism, but not impossible. Lastly, I have had some trouble with blanks cracking on assembly with this kit in particular. I now aggressively sand the brass tube, and use a utility knife to scrape off the finish on the male end of the pen part, this tends to help. IMHO PSI makes the parts fit too tight in the tube. If it ends up too loose for my liking, I use a touch of threadlock placed on the brass during assembly.

Strati according to Webster

If stratus is referring to a cloud, then more than one stratus are strati, no doubt. But in this case isn't Stratus a proper noun? For example, if Stratus was a family name you wouldn't say "The Strati are coming over for dinner", clearly it would be Stratuses. But then you have the special case scenarios like moose, mouse, or corporate names like General Motors. So, if the Stratus pen is a proper noun then its probably Stratuses, if it is just a noun, then strati, and if its a brand then maybe just Stratus. After all of this, I'm still confused, glad I became an engineer....:confused::confused:
