I just got a few conservative rollerball and fountain pen kits. I hadn't looked a the instructions or parts list prior to ordering. There was a "seam" in the photo of the assembled pen, so I made a poor assumption.

In the upper tube, opposit the cap assembly, am I to understand the bare brass tube is what causes a friction fit on either the rollerball or fountain pen nib? I don't remember ever putting together a pen that doesn't have a coupler or cap on each end of the tube.

At first, I thought the first bag was missing pieces, and then I checked the other bags and instructions. For this particular gift, I think I'll use the zen kits that I also ordered in this batch.

If I properly understand your meaning, the piece that holds the cap on is already attached to the nib and will come off so you can press it into the cap. The first time I saw that with a rollerball, it confused me, too.
