Conked Out

A while back I was pondering using a few old tree fungus "conks" to try making a pen. I finally got around to it. What a pain - used about a half-gallon of CA to hold the thing together. But it did come out okay (excuse the picture). Has a kind of neat stardust effect along with contrasting sections. I couldn't resist using one for a stand as well.

I was just thinking last night when I was getting some blanks around that it would be cool to make one from something like that and that I had never seen it done. Happy to see one and can't wait to try it myself.

That's pretty cool! I don't exactly know what a "conk" is other than the one's in the ocean. Looks like a mushroom growing on the side of a tree?

It is - some kind of fungus that grows on decaying trees. I'm not sure if it is actually a mushroom, but does look like one.
