Buddy of mine has been dealing with cancer and recently had surgery. He wanted to get three Concavas for his doctors.

This is the first of the three for the doctor that performed his surgery. That doctor is from New Zealand so I was asked if I had wood from there. Luckily I had some Mammoth Kauri on hand. The piece I have was carbon dated to be between 30,000 to 50,000 years old. I couldn't decide whether to use black enamel or the 24k kit, but I eventually chose the 24k kit to go with this wood.

Also did something a little different by turning a captive ring on the upper body.

There's a video of the captive ring here, just have to click on HD.

Beautiful Pen, Jason.
Glorious Kauri Blank.
Love your inclusion of the Captive Ring under the Clip area.
Looks Great and Showcases your Skill.
The Choice of the Concava displays the Captive Ring Beautifuly, and your shape of the upper Blank, makes it one of the better Concava's I have seen.
Fantastic, Fit and Finish, is typical of your Craftsmanship.
Congratulations,
Brian.

Thanks, guys.

I thought Concava would be the perfect candidate for the captive ring so I went with it.

Hopefully the Doc likes it instead of finding the ring annoying.

I figured a surgeon would appreciate it.
