One of my computers has lost its connection to the internet. I have two computers wired to the router. They can both get on the local net and talk to each other but one can not get on the internet. It worked fine this morning then when I came home, no connection. I was not used during the day. I've tried restarting both it and the router, I've swapped cables. What next?

Open Network Connections.
double Click the icon for the adapter that connects your computer to the Internet or to other network computers, ie Local Area connection
Under support click repair or
Under Network Tasks, click Repair this connection.

if that doesn't work

Check the numbers under your TCP/IP properties, under Local Area connection properties, under Network properties under Network Connection, under control panel

Don't know what happened but it's back online without me doing anything since I posted the problem. I had tried the repair connection before posting the problem. When I came back to check the numbers after reading your post Mike it was already connected.

how can it be my ISP when one computer can get on and they other can and they're both going through the same router/modem?

Sometimes when the connection is reset you get conflicts and it will kick one off the network. It happens to me at home.

Switching off everything and then unplugging the router for about 5 minutes seems to work. Switch on the router and wait for all the lights to come on and then turn on the computers.
Should work again.
Also check to see if there are any firmware updates for your router if it is an older model.

DHCP

Are both computers using DHCP and is your router serving DHCP?

What you'r seeing might happen if both computers have fixed IP and are trying to use the same address.
