Hello; Asking the amazing creative people for ideas! I am looking to solve a problem with my house trim. I have a tutor style house and in the past I have had problems with carpenter bees boring into the wood trim. I replaced the trim with a composite and that discouraged the bees, but the expansion and contraction pulls out the fasteners.

I need some ideas on how to allow the movement but keep the trim firmly against the house? I have thought of cutting a slot in the boards and attaching washer head screws into the slot, then capping the slot with scrap material.

Who has any thought if this is a good or bad idea? Second what to use as water proofing to keep water out?

Sorry no help.

I have had a similar problem with composite decking material. Western exposure here in Salt Lake City, UT is brutal in the summer. Snapped the heads off some of the screws in the vertically oriented skirting material.

There are many adhesive (caulking) materials available. Touch base with a Window/Door installer as they may
offer suggestions for purchasing industrial strength adhesive. I would use the adhesive affixed to the back of your
composite material and then reinforce with SS screws. Just a suggestion on my part.

You screw that stuff. No nails. Make oversized hole so allow some movement. Screw into solid material like the studs. Do not slam home the screws. Let them float some like you would if hanging vinyl siding. Use flexible caulk of your choice at gaps. Bung the screw holes.
