Guides to turning pens and pencils are as prevalent as fleas on dogs and cats. There is so much good information on the subject on the internet its a wonder that books about pen turning sell. That is not to say that I did not buy some, I did and I also bought a few DVD's. I bought the materials when I first got into pen turning, but my experience shows that I could have saved a substantial amount of cash had I found IAP and Youtube first. Just the IAP library has enough information to assist a pen turner. I have donated my books and DVDs to my local wood turning club.

Nice to read an informed review.

I have had a few e-mails etc. asking whether the book published by Taunton in the US is the same as the one published by GMC in the UK.

The answer is yes, they are the same, Taunton just chose to use a different title and cover so please don't buy both.

The UK version is "Pen and Pencil Projects -A Guide for Woodturners" (ISBN 978-1-86108-836-9) available from GMC publications

The US version is Complete Guide to Turning Pens & Pencils (ISBN 978-1-60085-365-4) available from Taunton

I thought this forum was the "Complete Guide to Turning Pens & Pencils".

I agree Steve, this forum would certainly qualify for that title as it is a massive resource of useful information that no book can hope to emulate.

Incidentally, the choice of title was Taunton's rather than mine. I actually prefer the title of the UK edition "Pen and Pencil Projects -A Guide for Woodturners"
