This thread title should get some attention :) It's not as bad as it might sound!

Our forum software vendor Xenforo is releasing a major version upgrade this summer and once it's stable and mostly bug-free, we'll implement it here. Ahead of that upgrade I'll be doing a variety of things to get ready for it, some of which may affect the way things look and feel in small ways. As we get closer to the upgrade and I understand the scope of the changes, I'll let you know what to expect. I don't anticipate wholesale change -- things should mostly be as they are today.

As long as it runs on old computers I'm good with whatever you need to do Jeff. It is annoying when some forums etc slow the computer to the point of stalling and it can't be used.

How many on here are from Virginia? I'll pray for you! 😁 😁 😁

Jeff, Not sure if the upgrade has this or not, but one item on our woodworking forum is "comment" which allow a comment specific to a particular post, and is posted in that post almost like a quite box.
That is VERY handy in adding a comment specific to a post without making it look like one is hijacking a thread, or moving the OP into the wrong direction.

Is this available or will it be available?

jeff, along the line of your last post, I hate it when something changes and I'm not notified as what it is or if I even want it. Example: My Android would sent a photo by text in one step. Now it takes three steps. That's progress?

Hank, yes that feature is available as an addon. I have not considered implementing it mostly because I didn't want to complicate the "flow" of a thread that people are used to. By default it also allows comments to comments to a selectable depth. I don;t know how easy that would be to follow, especially on a handheld device. However, I'll be glad to revisit that position after we get through the basic forum software upgrade and that addon gets rewritten by the author. Give me a reminder later in the year and we'll have a look.

Lumberjocks and others owned by that business group has that feature called Nested View. I hated it because it jumbles up the thread and switched it to Original View which is chronological. It is a different software but the same principle. As long as Jeff can make it optional that would satisfy both types of reader.

OK, a few upgrade things have already happened without any problems. All behind the scenes stuff that doesn't affect anything you see.

Next, our server operating system has to be upgraded. This is going to cause a little disruption as the whole site will be down for 30-45 minutes and your browser will say "server not found" or some such thing depending on your browser flavor. Since this is done by the admins at the hosting company, I don't have much control over when it occurs. I'm going to ask for a late night window, but I don't know if they can make that happen.

So if you can't get to the site for a while sometime over the next few days, don't panic! We'll be back shortly.

I'll let you know when the OS upgrade is all done.

OK, the OS upgrade is done. I noticed only a brief outage.
Just running quickly through the site, it does not seem like any changes are visible to us. Does this mean though that you have new toys you can play with and maybe try out here? And will we see any of those soon? Thanks.

The server operating system upgrades are done. That's separate from the changes I initially posted about above. Everything should look the same, except for being a little faster (based on server statistics and my personal impression -- feels snappy)

As other changes arrive, I'll post here.

I just noticed that our site event calendar isn't working properly. Must have broken during a recent upgrade. I'm going to disable it until I can find a replacement that works properly. Sorry for any inconvenience! For the time being, if you have any pen show events you want to advertise, let me or @Wayne know and we'll put it on the announcement box on the front page.

Just do not do what they did at Wood Central-- 13 changes so that we ole guys could not keep up. So, instead of being an ardent viewer and contributor, I can not stand the place~!! Except for my friend in Australia, Derek Cohen. P.

We're only planning 12 :)

Just kidding, I don't expect many changes.

Thanks Jeff; I just was checking this week and noticed my saved link doesn't work...
