Seems I just can't catch a break this year. Went to check on my mom Sunday after she called and said she heard a large crash outside her window. What I found was one of the big oaks beside her house had snapped off and landed on her storage building and Driveway. Monday afternoon I went down to cut it up. I looked it over and came up with a plan of attack. Needles to say, I was attacked and thank God I'm still alive. As i was cutting the limbs off it decided to roll off the top of the building, I saw it moving and turned to get out of the way but it was to late. Small limb got me in the head and the trunk took out my right knee and foot. The foots OK, just swollen and bruised, My knee is trashed, with ligament damage and torn panatella tendon. Never thought anything could hurt worse than gout, boy was I wrong. Find out today when I have surgery. This Sucks

Glad you are not hurt worse ... the limbs make spears ya know. I agree with Chriselle in that you have to make the tree into pens, peppermills, new house, etc.

Speedy recovery!

WOW! That was a very close call. I've felled a number of trees over the years and there's nothing more dangerous in the woods than trying to fell a half-fallen tree. I actually had a guy I worked with use his large riding lawn mower to pull down a tree that had hung up in the limbs of the tree next to it. Unfortunately, he was successful in pulling down the tree, however, the rope he used wasn't long enough so he pulled the tree right down on top of himself, costing him his life. I'm glad you were not injured more seriously and I will say a prayer for your speedy and complete recovery.

Good luck.

Glad to hear your survived without worse damage. Hope that your knee heals quickly.
I have had several knee surgeries and the best and least painful thing was to keep them iced the first few days. Frozen peas work great because you can wrap them around your knee and then refreeze them to use again.

Thanks Guys for the encouragement. I've had 3 past knee surgeries and know what to expect but not at all looking forward to it. I find out for sure tomorrow. Went back down to moms today. Tree seemed a lot bigger. And yes I picked out a couple nice pieces to make a few pens out of. Its an old black jack oak and has some beautiful dark grains. Anybody close by want any, come on. You will have to load it yourself. Sorta hard to do on crutches.

Wishing you the best, cutting a downed tree is how most of the loggers around here get hurt, same thing, the tree roll over on them. Good luck with the Knee, that has to be painful, .

Per Doctor, Good News and bad News. Good news no surgery needed on the knee. Bad News is that I have a fractured tibia. 9-12 weeks on crutches and a leg brace at a minimum. No weight on the leg at all during this time. Out of work for another week and then I can set my butt in a chair for 3 months. Now I'm thinking surgery on a tear or something would have been better. Guess there goes my summer. Now to figure out how to reorganize my workbench and lathe so I can sit and turn.
