Where's the best place to buy individual collets for my Beall collet chuck? I'm in need of a couple of sizes and now I'm wishing I'd bit the bullet and bought the whole set initially.
Another question, I'm assuming size-wise that the size marked is the largest they will open up? Do any sellers list dimensions of the opening on their sites?

Hi Mike,
Here is the cheapest I've found: http://store02.prostores.com/servlet/ctctools/the-311/FULL-ER32-COLLET-SET/Detail

They do have a gripping range...they will open a little larger than the posted size and will close and grip a little smaller than the posted size. I have the exact range somewhere and if I find it I'll post it here.

A full set is most always available on ebay for really good prices.

I've not purchased from the above link...just the cheapest price I've seen.

The gripping range is .040 inches which I assume is .020 inches over and under the posted size. Maybe someone who know more about the individual gripping range of each collet will help out.

Do a good turn daily!
Don

I just bought from this guy on Ebay (free shipping and really fast) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400061817947&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT He is higher than the one Don posted but with free shipping it may be close.

I find Enco good to deal with, as someone else has mentioned.
The marked size is the largest you should put in it, and ER32 will
collapse right at a max of 1mm (.039).
Collets should never be expanded, you risk springing them out, and breaking them at the thin webs holding it all together at the base.

Another nice thing about Discount Tools is that they have three er-32 collets larger than 3/4". The 25/32, 20mm and 13/16" sizes come in real handy especially when buying blanks that are already rounded and are slightly larger than 3/4". I got the 20mm and 13/16" since the 20mm covers a larger span than the 25/32".

Their ebay site shows a nice table showing all the collets and their gripping ranges......... good to print out!

To expand on what John said; The Fractional sets have gaps in the clamping range above 1/2". If you want to completely cover the range of sizes, get the 20 piece metric set. The larger size is a good idea. My metric set has the clamping range specified backwards to my way of thinking. eg. the collet is marked "16-15" rather than "15-16".

800watt is a good seller, but don't expect any emails, responses to emails, or communication. The collets will just show up one day.
